I had only seen a Potoo once before, in Costa Rica, but it was fairly high up, and difficult to really make out that it was a bird. The camouflage of this species is really impressive. It took a number of us quite a while to spot it, even when they were looking right at it. They look so much like a broken part of a branch! I had to circle around this individual a full 360 degrees until I was able to get a background reasonably free of bright white sky.
